Instructions
- Gently muddle mint leaves with simple syrup in the bottom of a rocks glass or julep cup.
- Add bourbon.
- Pack the glass tightly with crushed ice.
- Stir until the outside of the glass frosts.
- Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a generous bouquet of mint.
Notes
The Mint Julep has been the official drink of the Kentucky Derby since 1938, though it dates back to the 18th century. Traditionally served in a silver or pewter julep cup, the key is plenty of crushed ice and a generous crown of fresh mint pressed against your nose as you sip.
